I Surrender! (Now what??)

Updated: Dec 28, 2023

How do YOU feel when you hear/read the word Surrender? Does it make all of your little gremlins and demons shriek in protest? Do pride, envy, jealousy, or any of the other 7 deadly sins want to dig their claws in deeper, trying in all earnestness to cling to life? That description may sound a bit dramatic, I know, but if you can relate at all, fear not! There is hope. I can share a few things that I have learned along my path. Maybe you’ll find some of it useful.

1. Prayer. “Just do it”, as the Nike saying goes. In the beginning you may only be throwing

up a “foxhole” prayer. Those are the types of prayers that are born in moments of desperation. There may be bargaining involved. For example, “I swear, God, I’ll never (fill in the blank) ____________ again if you get me out of this situation right now!” Often, shortly after having gotten out of that predicament, we find that we revert right back to the same behaviors that got us there in the first place!

The willingness to pray may come slowly. That’s perfectly natural. Spirit will never demand anything from us. It wants only our highest good. Lasting, long term change doesn’t happen overnight. It happens over time. Our Higher Powers love us unconditionally, but it’s hard to feel any sort of connection if we aren’t making a consistent effort to connect.

It may feel awkward or uncomfortable at first. Keep at it. You will see results before you know it. Also, try getting a "prayer buddy" or prayer network started. Just like going to the gym, sometimes it helps to have someone else alongside us. I am also happy to pray with you!

Please stay tuned for my next post about meditation. Until then, take care, be well, and PRAY! :)

Excellent reminder. Period. I wonder why/how meditation and prayer are so often forgotten, especially in particularly stressful times when i need it most!

Right? Personally, I think it has to do with the "human factor". 😂 I still forget sometimes. I know I usually feel better when I remember, though. 😁
